Sadrists stage demonstration in Thi-Qar to demand prisoners’ release

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: The Sadrists, or Iraqis loyal to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr, staged a demonstration in Thi-Qar after the Friday prayers to call on the U.S. and Iraqi forces to release Sadrist detainees, according to the movement’s office in the province. “The Sadrist office in Thi-Qar staged the demonstration to urge Iraqi and U.S. forces to set free imprisoned loyalists of Sadr who were not involved in acts of violence against Iraqis in accordance with the directives of Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr,” Sadeq Mottawas told IraqiNews.com news agency. “We appeal for the release of detainees who were not proved involved in acts of violence against Iraqis or imprisoned under false accusations,” Mottawas added. Thi-Qar lies 385 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (P) 2
