Sadrist detainees’ families stage demo in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A number of the Sadrist detainees’ families on Monday staged a demonstration in central Baghdad to demand the release of their sons and to improve their condition. “We came to participate in this demonstration staged by wives and children of the Sadrist detainees to demand their release,” Sadrist MP Ghufran al-Saedi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “We call on the government to review its stance from the detainees’ issue and to speed up freeing the innocent people because it should be the government of the Iraqi people,” she added, noting that most of the detainees’ families live in poor regions. “The government while announcing reconciliation with Baathists should reconcile with these families and free their sons,” the lawmaker explained. For her part, Maha al-Douri, another Sadrist lawmaker, said that “we came today to announce our support to the detainees’ wives and mothers’ demands to free them and we call the government and the parliament to end this file and free all detainees.” SH (P) 1
