Dawlat al-Qanoon nominates 2 persons for Missan governor

MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: A member of Nouri al-Maliki’s Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) alliance in Missan said on Wednesday that two persons were nominated for the governor post. “Dawlat al-Qanoon agreed on Wednesday (April 1) to nominate the two members of the alliance; Engineers Kamal al-Safar and Mohamed al-Shayaa for the Missan governor,” Mohamed al-Sudani told IraqiNews.com news agency. Dawlat al-Qanoon won eight seats in Missan during the recent provincial council elections. Shahid al-Mihrab got eight seats, while al-Ahrar bloc won seven and the National Reform Movement got four seats. “Dawlat al-Qanoon garnered 38% of the votes in Baghdad, 37% in Basra, 23.1% in Thi-Qar, 23.1% in al-Qadissiya, 15.3% in Wassit, 16.2% in Najaf, 17.7% in Missan, 10.9% in Muthanna and 12.5% in Babel,” the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) had said in a statement announcing the results of the provincial council elections on February 5. Missan is a Shiite province. Its capital city is al-Amara. Sitting on the Tigris River, Amara lies 390 km south of Baghdad. Missan, in the east of the country, bordering Iran, is home to many marsh Arabs. SH (S) 2
