Remains of 187 Anfal victims removed from Arbil to Kermyan

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The remains of 187 victims of al-Anfal campaign, which had been found in two mass graves in Najaf last year, will be removed from the city of Arbil to Kermyan on Sunday, according to a Kurdish official on Saturday. “Special ceremonies will be held for the occasion,” Ayoub Kalali, the director of the martyrs & Anfal victims ministry in the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region, told IraqiNews.com news agency. The Kermyan mayor, Tareq Rasheed, had told IraqiNews.com that the remains of those victims will be buried in the area of Dibin in Kermyan on Tuesday (April 14) in ceremonies to be attended by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barazani. The former Iraqi regime had launched a series of campaigns codenamed Anfal during the early 1980s, which resulted in the death of thousands of Kurds, most of them were buried in mass graves all over Iraq.
