IHEC: Preparations underway for Kurdistan parliamentary polls

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Tuesday said that preparations are currently underway for parliamentary polls in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. “Operational and logistic preparations are underway for elections following the regional Parliament’s ratification of the elections law and the approval of necessary funds,” according to a statement released by the commission and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. The Independent High Electoral Commission was established in 2004 as the Independent Election Commission of Iraq (IECI) by Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) Order 92 as the exclusive electoral authority in Iraq. In 2007 the IECI was renamed the IHEC in accordance with Law 11 (2007) of the Council of Representatives (COR).
