PB issues decree appointing governor for Basra

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Presidential Board (PB) on Tuesday issued a decree appointing Shaltagh Abboud Sharad as governor of the province of Basra. “Based on the decisions taken by the Basra provincial council in line with article 7 of the law on provinces, Shaltagh Abboud Sharad was appointed as governor of Basra…,” according to a PB release as received by IraqiNews.com news agency. The final results of the Basra provincial council elections, held on January 31, 2009, saw the Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) Coalition winning 20 seats, followed by the Shahid al-Mihrab List and independent blocs with five seats each.
