5 killed, 8 wounded in 5th Baghdad explosion

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Five persons on Wednesday were killed and eight others were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Baghdad’s Sunni area of al-Doura, the fifth blast to hit the capital today. “The explosion occurred 10 minutes after a car bomb was defused in the neighboring Abu Dasheer area,” an Iraqi police source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Earlier today, four car bombs detonated in the capital Baghdad. An official spokesperson for Baghdad’s Operations Command (BOC) said that two car bombs exploded in Bagdad’s Sadr City, leaving nine dead and 72 wounded. The first was next to Maridi market and the second near the city’s market, according to the official. Meanwhile, two cars rigged with explosives went off simultaneously in Jaffat Street of the predominantly Shiite city of al-Hurriya, leaving an unknown number of casualties. SS (P)/SR 1
