Talabani, Barazani meet in Docan resort

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s Secretary General Jalal Talabani met with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Leader Massoud Barazani in the Docan resort, northwest of the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya, on Sunday, a PUK media source said. “The PUK and KDP politburos are meeting after Talabani and Barazani conclude their closed session of talks,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The meeting is expected to discuss preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary and municipal council elections in the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region as the two parties are planning to enter with a joint list, the source added. Barazani is to set a final date for the parliamentary elections that were scheduled to be held on May 19 but were postponed due to the Kurdistan parliament’s endorsement of the amended law on elections. Talabani, the Iraqi President, had arrived in Sulaimaniya on Friday (May 1) coming from Baghdad. Docan lies 60 km northwest of Sulaimaniya. AmR (P)/SR 1
