Trade Ministry threatens to take CPI head to court

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Ministry of Trade on Sunday threatened to take the chairman of the parliamentary Commission on Public Integrity (CPI) to court, citing his “attack” on the Ministry throughout a period of over two years. The statement came following calls by CPI Chairman Sabah al-Saedi, who is also a member of the Fadila Party, to remove the minister of trade, Abdulfalah al-Sudani, from his position. “The unjust statements by MP Sabah al-Saedi have overstepped his constitutional rights…,” read a Ministry statement that was received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Saedi said that his call came in response to an incident on Wednesday (April 29), where the minister’s security guards allegedly prevented the commission’s personnel from executing an arrest warrant for the minister’s brothers, Majid Hassan al-Sudani and Sabah Hassan al-Sudani, as well as six directors general on corruption charges. The Ministry said that the court would have the last word on the matter. SS (P)/SR 1
