Army detonates IED near Diwaniya

DIWANIYA / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi army force detonated without incident an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unidentified gunmen on a main road west of the city of al-Diwaniya on Thursday, an army source said. “The army 8th Division’s Sappers Corps personnel detonated an IED emplaced by unidentified gunmen on a highway that links Najaf and Diwaniya provinces in the district of al-Shafeiya, (7 km) west of Diwaniya,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Combined Iraqi army and police forces had on Wednesday (May 6) launched search campaigns in areas between Shafeiya and al-Sunniya districts, arresting three wanted persons involved in rocket-firing positions targeting Iraqi and U.S. forces.
