Poverty in Iraq in 2007 at 23% – COSIT

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Poverty in Iraq in 2007 was estimated at 23 percent, meaning that around 1/4 th – 1/5 th the population had a spending level below the poverty line, the Central Organization for Statistics and Information Technology (COSIT) said in a report on Tuesday. “The percentage of poverty was calculated on a national level,” said the report that was received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The poverty line in Iraq lies at 76,896 Iraqi dinars per month per person,” it explained. “This estimation of the poverty line is close to neighboring countries’ estimations in this regard,” it added.
