6 candidates run for Kurdish presidential elections

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: T he head of the electoral commission in Kurdistan region, Ali Qadir, said on Monday that the nomination for the presidential elections in Kurdistan region was closed at 6:00 p.m. with only six candidates. “The nomination for the Kurdistan region’s presidential elections was closed at 6:00 am Monday (May 25), and only six candidates presented their papers,” Qadir told IraqiNews.com news agency. Qadir had said earlier that the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) decided to extend the nomination for the presidential elections for two more hours until 6:00 pm. “Six candidates had officially presented their nomination requests to the electoral commission headquarters in Arbil,” he said. The Six candidates are: Massoud Barzani, president of Kurdistan region, Hallow Ibrahim Ahmed, Dr. Kamal Mirawidly, Hussein Mohammed Amin, Ahmed Mohammed Rasul, Ahmed Kurda. SH (P)/SR 1
