Assassination gang arrested in Basra

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Police forces on Monday arrested the gang that assassinated Brigadier Hakeem Jassim two weeks ago in western Basra, said a source from the relations and media office of Basra police. “The gang consists of four members,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The four gunmen conducted assassination operations, and they planted roadside bombs,” he said. “The gang admitted that they are linked to a new terror organization,” he added. He did not mention further details, but pointed out that police forces seized a plot to plant roadside bombs on the gang, in addition to a laptop on which computer programs of how to produce roadside bombs were stored. Brigadier Jassim was assassinated in al-Zubair suburb, 35 km west of Basra, the oil-rich city that lies 590 km south of Baghdad. MH (P)/SR 1
