Lawmakers differ over retired workers’ salaries directorate

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Linking workers’ retirement salaries and social security management to the Finance Ministry is a “step in the right direction,” said a lawmaker from the Kurdistan Alliance (KA), while a legislator from the Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) demanded to make the directorate as an independent organization. “This step was supposed to be made earlier,” Kurdish lawmaker Sami al-Attroshi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The delay has arisen as the step requires other measures,” he said. “The decision will be fulfilled by the beginning of 2010,” he added. But lawmaker Alaa Saadoon of the IAF perceives the step as incorrect. “This decision will cost a lot,” she said. “As an independent organization, the directorate would be able to invest to cover retired workers salaries,” she explained.
