Five Sadrists acquitted in Nassiriya

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Five members of Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr’s movement have been acquitted by the Criminal Court in Nassiriya city, according to a Sadrist statement. “The Criminal Court in Nassiriya acquitted five Sadrists of all charges against them,” read a statement released by the Sadrist movement and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Meanwhile, an official from the Sadrist movement’s higher media authority, Hazem al-Araji, has warned the Iraqi government of the inhumane treatment to which he said detainees are subjected to in Iraqi jails. Araji urged Iraqi authorities to release “innocent” people in their custody. The hunger strike staged by detainees in Amara prison clearly demonstrates that grave human rights abuses are taking place, he added. SS (P)/SR 1
