21 wanted men captured, 2 IEDs defused in Basra

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Policemen captured 21 men wanted on “criminal” charges, seized unlicensed vehicles and defused improvised explosive devices during a large-scale security campaign in Basra on Friday, the province’s police information office said. “Twenty-two unlicensed vehicles and seven unlicensed motorbikes were seized in the campaign,” the office said in a release received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The Criminal Evidence Police also managed to defuse two IEDs that had been planted in the area of al-Barjasiya, (40 km) western Basra, and the Zubair-Umm Qasr highway, (50 km) western Basra,” it added. The oil-rich port city lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
