Independent MP urges compensation from Kuwait

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An independent parliamentarian on Monday called on Kuwait to compensate the Iraqi people for providing U.S. troops with logistic support during their invasion of Iraq without an international mandate. “The compensation proposal was unanimously approved by the parliamentarians,” MP Izz al-Din al-Dawla said during a press conference held at the headquarters of the Iraqi Parliament in Baghdad, which was attended by IraqiNews.com news agency. A parliamentary committee will be set up to submit its recommendations to the government, which will seek compensation from Kuwait for the “psychological damage inflicted on the Iraqi people,” al-Dawla noted. The parliamentarian explained that the proposal came in response to Kuwait’s request to keep Iraq under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. SS (P) 1
