2 U.S. soldiers killed in Diala, Anbar

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Two U.S. soldiers were killed in two separate incidents in the provinces of Diala and al-Anbar, increasing the number of U.S. fatalities this month to four, according to the U.S. army in Iraq on Friday. “A Multi National Force – West Marine died as the result of a non-combat related incident June 5,” read a U.S. army statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “A Multi-National Corps – Iraq Soldier died late last night of injuries received during a grenade attack on a patrol in the Diyala province of northern Iraq, June 4,” the U.S. army said in another statement. The deaths bring to 4,311 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, including 90 soldiers killed in 2009. A total of 486 U.S. troops were killed in 2003, 849 in 2004, 846 troops in 2005 and 822 soldiers in 2006. However, 2007 remains the year that saw the highest U.S. death toll with 904. November 2004, which witnessed fierce battles between U.S. forces and armed groups in Falluja city, Anbar province, remains the month that saw the highest U.S. death toll with 137. AmR (P) 1
