Hand grenade targets U.S. patrol, no casualties

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: An armor-penetrating bomb on Sunday hit a U.S. patrol vehicle in downtown Basra city, causing no casualties, according to a local source. “The attack occurred in al-Janina area, downtown Basra,” the relations and media office in Basra’s police told IraqiNews.com news agency. In early April 2009, British forces handed over security responsibilities in Basra province to the U.S. forces. U.S. troops have been hit by four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and one Katyusha rocket since then. The Shiite city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 1
