Wassit tops provinces in barley, wheat production – ministry

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Wassit ranked first among other Iraqi provinces with respect to the production of wheat and barley during the current season, the Iraqi Trade Ministry said Tuesday. “Until June 14, 2009, farmers in Wassit marketed 122,382 tons of wheat and 21,496 tons of barley,” the ministry said in a release received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “Up to June 15, 2009, farmers throughout Iraq marketed 617,629 tons of wheat and 189,244 tons of barley,” it added.
