Sadrist MP calls for closure of Muthanna Airport prison

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi parliamentarian from the Sadrist bloc on Saturday urged Iraqi authorities to close the military intelligence prison at Muthanna Airport and to launch an investigation into alleged human rights abuses committed there. “The Military Intelligence Department prison at Muthanna Airport is not monitored by the Parliament or any human rights organization. Violations of the constitution and human rights are being committed there,” MP Maha al-Douri told IraqiNews.com news agency. Earlier, several members of parliament urged the formation of committees to probe into “human rights violations” inside Iraqi and U.S.-run jails.
