Police seize pick-up used to launch rockets at Basra airport

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: A joint force on Tuesday found a pick-up truck that was used to attack the U.S. base at Basra International Airport. “A force from the Iraqi army and police found the pick-up on the eastern bank of Shatt al-Arab,” a source from Basra police told Iraqi News. “The truck was used during a late hour on Monday evening to fire two rockets at the U.S. base,” the source noted. Earlier this morning, a source from the airport said that two Katyusha rockets were fired towards the U.S. base at Basra International Airport (25 km northwest of Basra City). There has been no word on casualties, the source noted. U.S. forces took over the airport, which served as a base for the Multi-National Force (MNF) since the 2003 invasion of the country, after the withdrawal of British troops in April 2009. The Shiite city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P) 1
