VP calls on neighbors in the Gulf to rescue Salhiya

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Vice President (VP) Tareq al-Hashemi on Saturday called on the leaderships of the oil-rich Persian Gulf countries to rescue people of the Salhiya neighborhood in Baghdad. “Al-Hashemi sent messages to the leaderships in the Persian Gulf countries,” said a release issued by the VP’s office and received by Iraqi News. “After the attacks on Wednesday August 19, 2009, we started a new fund devoted to rescuing the Salhiya people,” al-Hashemi said in his messages. “I call on all of you to support the Iraqi people in this big crisis and ordeal,” he said to the Persian Gulf leaders. Wednesday’s blasts left 82 people dead and 1203 injuries, in addition to severe damages in nearby buildings and houses in Salhiya. MH (P)/SR 1
