FM receives phone calls from AL chief, Turkish counterpart ahead of meetings

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari on Monday received two phone calls from the secretary general of the Arab League (AL), Amr Moussa, and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu ahead of the league’s meetings. This came two days before the meeting of Arab foreign ministers, scheduled to take place in Cairo on Sept. 9, 10, according to a Foreign Ministry statement received by Iraqi News. The recent political and diplomatic tension between Iraq and Syria is expected to be on the agenda of the meeting. On August 18, a series of blasts struck the Iraqi capital Baghdad and left 82 persons dead and 1,203 others wounded, according to Iraqi official figures. Iraq has accused Baathists based in Syria of being behind the bombings and called on the Syrian government to hand them over to Iraqi authorities. SS (P) 1
