Turkish FM describes Iraqi-Syrian meeting as ‘constructive’

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu described the quadruple meeting which was held in Istanbul on Thursday to tackle the Iraqi-Syrian crisis as positive and constructive. “A four-way meeting of Foreign Ministers of Syria Walid al-Moallem, Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu, Iraq Hoshyar Zebari and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa was held on Thursday in Istanbul,” Syrian news agency (SANA) reported. During the meeting, the fabricated crisis between Syria and Iraq was discussed, and an evaluation was made to the security officials’ meeting held on September 15th in Ankara. Means of finding a solution to this crisis in the interest of both countries and peoples were also discussed during the meeting. “The meeting was positive and constructive, during which all sides underlined the importance of cooperation among countries of the region and not resorting to international forums,” Davutoglu said during a press conference with Moussa following the meeting. “Work is underway to build confidence between the Syrian and Iraqi sides, and this will be continued during another meeting to be held today evening,” the Turkish Minister added. Moussa, for his part, said that the meeting was positive, during which a number of ideas were proposed to settle the crisis and push easement and agreement process between Syria and Iraq forward. He said that steps of easement and agreement include media easement and reconsidering the returning of Ambassadors as soon as possible, adding that the other suggestions are related to diplomatic and security fields.
