Anti-terror police chief in Salah el-Din sacked

SALAH EL-DIN / IraqiNews.com: The Salah el-Din police chief sacked on Thursday the police officer in charge of anti-terrorism operations in the province after the escape of 16 prisoners from Tikrit, a police source said. “General Hamad Names gave an order to sack anti-terrorism police chief, Colonel Mohammad al-Juburi, and to arrest him after the escape of 16 prisoners from his department’s jail,” the source told Iraqi News. “He ordered also to appoint Colonel Khalaf Mohammad to succeed al-Juburi and to add 100 policemen to foster security measures in the province,” he added. A police source had said earlier that security authorities imposed a curfew on Tikrit and waged crackdown operations after the escape of 16 prisoners of al-Qaeda group. A total of 16 prisoners of al-Qaeda group managed to escape from the anti-terrorism jail in central Tikrit, including five who were sentenced to death. Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad. SH (P) 1
