Conf. in Talafar stresses national reconciliation

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Several parties’ politburos in the district of Talafar, western Mosul, held a conference attended by a number of chieftains, notables and clerics to stress the importance of national reconciliation, according to the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF) party leader on Sunday. “The conference was also held to discuss the fate of Talafar, (60 km) northwest of Mosul, at the current stage as well as its future in light of the forthcoming parliamentary elections in January 2010,” Olay Falakoglu told Iraqi News. The conference’s final statement called for brushing aside any differences for the sake of Talafar and also stressed the need to activate national reconciliation’s role in the stability of the district. The statement reiterated support for the Iraqi government’s position regarding “the formation of an international tribunal to try persons involved in the blasts that take place in the country, effectuate the judiciary’s role in Talafar and underline the key demand by the people of Talafar to have the district independent administratively from Ninewa due to its mismanagement”. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
