Maliki urges parliament to adopt open-list system

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki called on Parliament on Monday to adopt and approve the open-list system in the coming parliamentary elections in early 2010. This came during his meeting with Parliament’s former speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, according to a statement released by his office and received by IraqiNews.com news agency, The premier called to hold the elections on time and not postponing them. “Al-Mashhadani called all Iraqis to take part in the coming elections to strengthen the democratic experience and to support the political process,” the statement added.
