New security plan to protect places of worship in Talafar

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Security forces in cooperation with citizens have mapped out ‘a tight security plan’ to protect mosques after the suicide explosion that hit a mosque in northern Talafar, during which scores were killed or wounded, the local police chief said on Monday. “The Talafar police department prepared a tight security plan to protect all mosques and other places of worship in the district,” Colonel Ali Hadi Ubeid told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The recent blast in the district aimed to flare up riots among Iraqis,” he added. The explosion that targeted a mosque in Talfar (60 km northwest of Mosul) on Friday Oct. 16, 2009, left 17 people dead and 98 others wounded. Talafar is 60 km northwest of Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, which lies 405 km north of Baghdad. SH (P)/SR 2
