U.S. delegate to UN arrives in Arbil to meet Barazani

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: U.S. permanent delegate to the United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice is scheduled to arrive in Iraqi Kurdistan on Saturday to meet the region president, Massoud Barazani, to discuss legislative elections in Iraq, the region’s presidential cabinet chief said. “Rice will arrive later on Saturday at the Arbil International Airport to meet with President Barazani on Iraq’s political process, the general elections in the country and relations between the region and the United States,” Fouad Hussein told IraqiNews.com news agency. The Iraqi parliament had referred the law on elections to the Political Council for National Security (PCNS) after it failed to pass it due to differences over the issue of Kirkuk, which is subject to dispute between the central government in Baghdad and the semi-autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region.
