U.S. embassy, MNF condemn Baghdad bombings

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and Multi-National Force-Iraq strongly condemn the bombings that took place this morning in Baghdad resulting in the deaths of scores of people and the wounding of hundreds of others, according to a joint statement. These bombings occurred outside Iraqi government offices and appear to have been aimed at ministerial buildings, it added. “These despicable terrorist attacks serve no legitimate purpose. They will not deter Iraqis from administering justice based on the rule of law and carrying out their legitimate responsibilities in governing Baghdad,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “At this crucial time leading up to national elections, we call upon all Iraqis to work together to combat all forms of violence and attempts at intimidation.” “We will assist the Iraqi government in any way we can to ensure that those individuals or groups responsible for such horrific acts  be pursued and brought to justice in accordance with Iraqi law,” the statement said. A police source had said that at least 132 people were killed and 500 were wounded, all civilians, when two suicide car bombs exploded in downtown Baghdad Sunday (Oct. 25) targeting the Justice Ministry and the Baghdad provincial administration in al-Salehiya region in central Baghdad.
