Carry out death sentences against “terrorists”- Basra students

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Dozens of school and university students have staged a demonstration in front of Basra’s provincial council, calling for the implementation of death sentences against those involved in “acts of terrorism.” “Thousands of those who have been sentenced to death remain in prisons…We, citizens, do not know what this delay is for,” one of the organizers of the demonstration, Ali Bassem, told IraqiNews.com news agency. All of those convicted have been found guilty of terror offences, Bassem noted. “The demonstrators have submitted their demands to Basra’s governor to pass them on to concerned authorities,” Bassem added. Informed sources had revealed a proposal to postpone the implementation of death sentences until after the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for January 2010. The Shiite province of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P) 2
