Kurdish MP describes Kirkuk’s 2009 voter register as “compromise”

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A Kurdistan Alliance (KA) lawmaker on Tuesday called for using the 2009 voter’s register during the election in Kirkuk, which he described as a compromise that would satisfy all parties. “The countdown to the election is about to end. All political forces should settle the matter and approve the elections law without the use of methods that may negatively impact the entire political process,” Sirwan al-Zahawi told IraqiNews.com news agency. Throughout the past week, the Iraqi Parliament has failed to pass the elections bill due to differences over the status of the oil-rich city of Kirkuk in the law on parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held on January 16, 2010.
