Islamic Group in Kurdistan to run in elections with separate list

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The Islamic Group in Kurdistan on Wednesday said it would participate in the upcoming parliamentary polls with a separate list, arguing that Kurdish parties have not agreed to run with a unified slate. “The Islamic Group in Kurdistan would prefer that all Kurdish political parties participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq with a unified list,” a spokesperson for the group, Abdulsattar al-Majeed, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The two main parties in Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)- should have launched an initiative to form a unified list,” Majeed noted. The group holds four seats in the 111-member Parliament of Kurdistan and two seats in the Iraqi Parliament. SS (P)/SR 1
