Maliki urged to lift “security siege” on Sadr City

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi parliamentarian on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to lift the “security siege” that has long been imposed by army forces on Baghdad’s Sadr City. “Sadr residents have submitted several requests, in which they called on the government to lift the security siege and the concrete barriers in the city,” Jabbar al-Taie from the Fadila Bloc said during a press conference held at the Baghdad-based Conferences Palace, which was attended by IraqiNews.com news agency. Taie called on the parliamentary human rights committee and local and international community organizations to help put an end to the security and humanitarian crisis in the city. SS (P)/SR 2
