Big Gulf firms to invest in Basra

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Major Gulf companies will soon arrive in Basra to carry out investment projects in the province, Basra’s governor said on Wednesday.   “An agreement has recently been reached with a number of Gulf countries to invest in different sectors in Basra,” Shaltagh Abboud al-Mayyah told IraqiNews.com news agency. The companies are expected to arrive early next month, the governor noted. “Early this week, several meetings took place in the United Arab Emirates between Iraqi businessmen, Emirian investors and foreign companies. On Thursday (Nov. 10), the governor of Basra led an Iraqi delegation to a Dubai-based conference on investment opportunities.   The Shiite city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.   SS (P)/SR 1
