Sahwa leader survives 2nd assassination attempt

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: Diala’s Sahwa council leader on Wednesday escaped an attempt on his life, the second in less than a month, according to a local security official. “An armed group believed to belong to al-Qaeda Organization intercepted the way of Hossam al-Mujammaie, the leader of Diala’s Sahwa council, on the main street leading to Kanaan district (18 km east of Baaquba) and opened fire on him,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Mujammaie was not hurt in the attack, the source pointed out: “This is the second attempt on his life in less than a month,” the source indicated. A sticky improvised explosive device (IED) had hit his vehicle in Bahraz district (5 km south of Baaquba), slightly wounding him. On Tuesday (Nov. 17), al-Qaeda Organization killed Hameed Khaleel al-Obeidi, the leader of Bab al-Darb Sahwa council, during an organized attack on his house.
