SIIC chief, Lebanese president mull bilateral relations

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, discussed with Lebanese President Michel Sleiman ways to beef up bilateral ties in various domains, the SIIC said in a statement on its website on Wednesday. “The Lebanese president stressed during their meeting on Tuesday (Jan. 19) the importance of promoting cooperation between Lebanon and Iraq given political alliances between Iraqi sects based on national coexistence and consensual democracy similarly to the successful Lebanese experience,” said the statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “Al-Hakim called for boosting Lebanese investments in Iraq while voicing hope for stability and economic success,” it added. Al-Hakim had arrived in Beirut last Monday (Jan. 18) within his multi-leg Arab tour. SH (P) 2
