Asayesh element killed south of Kirkuk

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: A member of the Asayesh (Kurdish for security) forces has been killed by unknown gunmen in south of Kirkuk City, a local security source said on Wednesday. “On Wednesday morning (Feb. 17), unidentified armed men opened fire on a commissioner of Asayesh forces in front of his house in downtown Touz Khormato district (80 km south of Kirkuk),” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The body was sent to the morgue,” he added. Asayesh or Asayish (Kurdish for security) is a Kurdish organization, created in September 1993. It is referred to as “intelligence agency”, “security force”, “security service”, “security police”, “secret service”, “secret police”, or just “Kurdish police.” It acts under the command of the Kurdish National Assembly and the Kurdistan Regional Government Kurdistan RegionG). Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians, and Arabs; lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SH (P) 2
