Highest participation rate in Baghdad, lowest in Samawa – IHEC

BAGHDAD /Iraqi News Baghdad witnessed the highest participation rate of the special voting among all provinces, while Samawa was the lowest, a member of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) said on Friday. “The number of voters in Baghdad was more than 100,000, while only 16,000 people voted in Samawa,” Iyad al-Kenani told Iraqi News. “Until now we do not have a complete report on the total number of participants,” he added. “Preliminary reports assert that hundreds of voters head for electoral centers in Australia since late yesterday,” he said, pointing out that “we have more than 300 monitors and political blocs as well as 150 international supervisors to watch the elections outside Iraq. “The United States will be the last country to open the electoral centers as it will open them at 4:00pm today,” he underlined.
