Syrian Kurds in Arbil prepare for demonstration on 2004 uprising

ARBIL /Iraqi News The Syrian Kurds in Iraq’s Kurdistan region said on Monday that they are preparing for holding a peaceful demonstration in front of the UN headquarters in Arbil on the occasion of the Kurdish uprising in Syria in 2004. “The organizing committee of the peaceful gathering called on Syrian Kurds in the region to take part in a civil march to present a written memo to the UN officials,” said a statement received by Iraqi News. “The demonstration comes to express the Kurds’ suffering during this uprising,” the statement added. On March 12, 2004, the first full-scale Kurdish uprising in the whole Kurdish Region of Syria took place, where more than 85 people were killed, hundreds were injured, and thousands were arrested.
