Babel council overrules decision to remove deputy governor

BABEL /Iraqi News The provincial council in Babel has overruled a decision by the governor to dismiss his first deputy, the head of the council’s Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Committee said on Monday. “The council had received a decision by Babel Governor Salman Nasser Taha to remove his first deputy, Iskandar Witwit,” Mansour al-Manie told Iraqi News. Witwit was suspended from work in light of a decision by the Justice and Accountability Commission, which cited his alleged affiliation to the dissolved Baath Party. The Board of Cassation overturned the commission’s decision and allowed Witwit to run in the parliamentary election, which took place on March 7. Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad. SS (P) 2
