IAF expresses reservations about election results

BAGHDAD /Iraqi News The Sunni Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) has expressed its reservations about the outcome of the parliamentary elections, which has resulted in the victory of Iyad Allawi‘s al-Iraqiya List. “From the beginning, the IAF has pointed out that the electoral process was not conducted with a high level of transparency. Serious violations have marred it. Therefore, the front is challenging the results and expresses its reservations about the related results that have been announced,” the front said in a statement published on its web site. Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) had announced the parliamentary election results on Friday (March 26) in which former prime minister Iyad Allawi’s al-Iraqiya bloc obtained 91 out of the parliament’s 325 seats, followed by incumbent Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) with 89 seats, the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) with 70 seats and the Kurdistan Alliance with 43 seats.
