US embassy hires attorneys to defend Iraqi detainees in Iraqi prisons

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The U.S. embassy in Baghdad has hired 25 Iraqi attorneys to defend Iraqi detainees in Iraqi prisons. “We will defend detainees who have no money to hire lawyers,” one of the attorneys told IraqiNews.com news agency on Sunday. He noted that the attorneys will also follow up the process of releasing detainees after the Iraqi judiciary finds them innocent. “The process will help many innocent detainees get released,” the source stressed.
