Egypt FM receives first Iraqi ambassador in Cairo

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit received on Saturday the new Iraqi ambassador in Cairo to receive from him a copy of his credentials as the first ambassador of Iraq to Egypt in a long time, according to a statement published on the Egyptian foreign ministry web site. “Foreign Minister Abul-Gheit welcomed the new Iraqi ambassador Nizar Eissa al-Kheir Abdullah, who will assume his tenure just one day before the activities of the Egyptian-Iraqi joint higher committee at the level of foreign undersecretaries,” read the statement as received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Egypt’s foreign ministry spokesman Ambassador Hossam Zaki expressed his country’s “keenness to enhance joint cooperation with Iraq in all fields and activate the previously-signed agreements and memorandums of understanding,” said Zaki. He noted that Abul-Gheit listened to the new ambassador’s assessment of the current situation in Iraq and stressed Egypt’s keenness on Iraq’s stability and progress. AmR (P) 1
