Burham Saleh takes up political scene, govt. formation with U.S. Congress delegation

SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: Prime Minister of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Burham Saleh received on Saturday a delegation from the U.S. Congress and discussed with them political developments in Iraq and steps taken to form a new government, according to a statement by Saleh’s office. “Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Saleh received James M. Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) and Jack Kingston (R-Georgia) in a meeting that was attended by the representative of the Iraqi Kurdistan in Washington Qabbad Talabani,” read the statement as received by IraqiNews.com news agency. The meeting tackled steps in the direction of forming a new government in Iraq as well as political developments, it added. The political scene in Iraq is witnessing activity among the blocs that obtained seats in the March parliamentary elections, particularly in light of last week’s ratification by Iraq’s supreme court on the results of the legislative elections. The U.S. Congress delegation had arrived in Iraq on Friday and met with Prime Minister of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki on Saturday morning before heading to the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya to meet Saleh.
