Chief of oil police calls for activating oil trafficking law

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Chief of oil Police called on the Higher Judicial Council to activate the special law regarding the oil trafficking, asserting that Iraq lost $6 billion between 2006-2009 because of attacks and sabotage acts on oil establishments. “The department’s forces are exerting great efforts to limit and prevent attacks on the oil establishments,” General Hamed Abdullah Ibrahim told IraqiNews.com news agency, pointing out that the oil police have prevented several violations on oil pipelines recently. “The need to more guards on pipelines forced the police department to use some civilian guards who are working through contracts,” he said, noting that they are 250 guards from the nearby regions of the oil establishments. “The civilian guards cannot fulfill their duty due to the difficulty of their training and armament,” the general explained.
