3 civilians wounded in mortar attack in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Three civilians were wounded when a mortar shell landed in central Baghdad on Sunday, according to a local security source. “A mortar shell landed near the Babel Hotel, adjacent to central Baghdad’s heavily-fortified green zone, leaving three civilian men wounded,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. Earlier, a security source had said that casualties from a car bomb blast in Adan square, al-Kadhemiya, northern Baghdad, rose to nine deaths and 36 wounded. A security source had told IraqiNews.com that the chieftain of al-Bu Ulwan clan was killed in a blast from an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to his vehicle. An IED went off on Sunday morning inside a souk (outdoor market) near al-Nahda garage in central Baghdad, leaving three civilians wounded and causing severe damage to nearby stores. An IED attached to the vehicle of an intelligence officer went off in al-Salhiya complex garage in central Baghdad but left no casualties. AmR (P)/SR 1
