SIIC’s Babel HQ bombing attempt thwarted

BABEL / IraqiNews.com: Police forces on Thursday foiled an attempt to bomb a headquarters of the Shiite Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) south of al-Hilla city, according to a security source. “The Hilla Police Department’s bomb squad personnel defused two improvised explosive devices near a headquarters of the SIIC in the district of al-Midhatiya, (30 km) south of Hilla, without incident,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The SIIC, under Shiite leader Ammar al-Hakim, is one of the components of the Iraqi National Alliance (INA), which obtained 70 seats in the legislative elections held on March 7, 2010. Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad. AmR (P) 28
