5 policemen wounded, explosive belt defused in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Five policemen were wounded in two separate incidents in eastern and southern Baghdad while an explosive belt was defused near a mosque in Sadr City on Friday, according to a local security source. “Unidentified gunmen hurled a hand-grenade at a police patrol in the area of al-Mashtal, southeastern Baghdad, leaving three patrolmen wounded,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “A sticky improvised explosive device (IED) went off near a police vehicle in al-Baladiyat neighborhood, eastern Baghdad, leaving two policemen wounded,” he added. The source also said that the police seized an explosive belt inside a bag near al-Ridwan mosque in the eastern Baghdad district of Sadr City. “The bomb squad personnel defused the blet,” he added.
